If Nino will star in a star-studded New Year drama “Murder on the Orient Express“, Sho will have his own as well.
As reported,
It was announced that Arashi‘s Sakurai Sho will star in Fuji TV‘s New Year drama special, titled: “Taishi Kakka no Ryourinin” (The Ambassador’s Chef). The said drama special will be Sakurai’s first drama since “Kazoku Game”.
Sakurai have played various professions for his dramas from being a butler in “Nazotoki wa Dinner no ato de” and a tutor in “Kazoku Game”. In “Taishi Kakka no Ryourinin”, Sakurai will play the role of Osawa Ko, French chef who used to work for a first class hotel. However, after seeing an advertisement for an official residence chef to work for a diplomat office, Osawa took the opportunity and flew to Vietnam and become a French chef in the Japanese Embassy.
“Taishi Kakka no Ryourinin” was serialized from 1998 to 2006 and have sold 1.9 millions copies. The author, Nishimura Mitsuru, have served as a chef in a Japanese ambassador’s residence (in Brunei and Vietnam) so the manga is based in reality. In 2002, Nishimura was awarded with Excellence Award at Japan Media Arts Festival Manga Division for his work.
The drama will show how one dish can affect diplomatic tactics so it has to be made with great thought; a wide array of cuisines will also served as a main attraction of this drama. “The world not only needs a cook with good technique, passion is also required,” Sakurai commented and he added that he will continue to read the original manga so that the image will be ingrained. Sakurai also received a training from a professional chef for his role.
Other Arashi members have starred in a string of Fuji TV’s New Year drama special since 2012 with Ohno Satoshi‘s “Yukai Tsukai Kaibutsu-kun”, Matsumoto Jun with “Lucky Seven SP” (2013), and back to Ohno with “Kagi no Kakatta Heya SP” (2014).
